Fall / Winter 2016 Trends : Fabrics

I'm back today to introduce you another chapter of the Fall/Winter 2016 Trends : Fabrics !! A really important chapter for us ;-) !
And this season there is a lot to speack about when it comes to fabrics ;-).
I stop my selection at 16 fabrics that I want to introduce you, new fabrics, some from last season still on trend, some we will be proposing online soon, some unfortunatly not, because not available in Portugal.
I Will try to stay short in my comments as the post will be already really long with all the pictures ;-).

- clic on the picture to enlarge them

* let's start with a real Winter fabric : Fur or better say fake fur (yes, please let me believe that !...). A fabric seen really a lot on the Catwalk, on Jackets, Coats, but also on sweats, scarfs and as neck detail !!
Fashion Show pictures from : Bottega Venetta, Emporio Armani, Fendi, Carolina Herrera, J.Crew, Givenchy, Adam Lippes, Carven from left to right .

* Velvet : is gonna be for sure THE fabric of the season !!
Knit Velvet like Nicky but woven Velvet as well !! Shape wise, what ever you like ;-) ! Dresses, trousers, tops, suits ... If you like this fabric, it's your season !!
Fashion Show pictures from : Prada, Rachel Zoe, H&M, Alberta Ferretti, Rochas, Tommy Hilfiger, Ulla Johnson, Ralph Lauren from left to right.

* Satin, we've seen it a lot already this summer and it continues this Winter ! As I told you already on the summer post, it isn't an easy fabric for us to source, satin need to be a really great quality if not it easely look's cheap and even vulgaire and in that case better pass on the trend :-) but I keep an eye open and the contacts active in case I see a nice one ;-).
Fashion Show pictures from : Prabal Gurung, Escada, Alberta Ferretti, Zero + Maria Cornejo, Roberto Cavalli, Louis Vuitton, Tomas Maier from left to right.

As I told you already in the 10 Essentials of the Season, this Fall/Winter 2016 is all about Pullovers and Sweaters, so a Knit season !! The next 3 fabrics are knits ;) :

* Rib Knits : we've seen it already on the Spring / Summer collections, but this Winter it's a Must Have !! Dresses, Skirts, Tops ... and the first one's are gonna be online soon ;)
Fashion Show pictures from : Sportmax, Derek Lam, Jason Wu, DKNY, Cédric Charlier, Rag & Bone, Victoria Beckham, M Missoni, from left to right.

* Melange, Speckled, Mouliné ... in the Industry we call them "Fake Plain" Fabrics ;) ! They are "In" on our "Normal" ready to wear collections since a few seasons already, and we also have them in the shop, so this season will be no exception ! I will try to enrich the offer a little more on the cut and sew knits, for the one's like me that have no special link with knitting needles ;). The Trend went over to the Woolen Fabrics as well, let's see if I can find some nice fabrics ;) !

Fashion Show pictures from : Carven, Missoni, Chanel, Zadig & Voltaire, Banana Republic, Stella McCartney, Bottega Venetta, Michael Kors Collection from left to right.

* and a "new" arrival on the knit level : Mohair !! on a little pullover or a dress, the best fluffy and comfy ally you can find in Winter ;) Unfortunatly I do not have a lot of hope to find this fabric localy, let's see ;)
Fashion Show pictures from : Jeremy Scott, Bally, Erdem, John Galliano, Emporio Armani, Escada, Opening Ceremony, Louis Vuitton from left to right.

Another continuity of this summer, Shinny fabrics !! and it will even become stronger with the festive season a head of us ;) !!
So, for shinny fabrics, we have :

* We already talked about it, in Mai in this post, the Metallic fabric trend still goes on this fall / winter ;) with a tinny difference, this season will be more GOLD than Silver ;)
Fashion Show pictures from : Jil Sander, Lanvin, Isabel Marant, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Chanel, Emanuel Ungaro, Christopher Kane, Rachel Zoe from left to right.

* Sequins !!! There not easy to sew on our "domestic" machines, and not easy to cut without having them everywhere in the house ;)
Here as well 98.9% of the fabrics are imported and offen WAY to expensive for the quantities we are buying, so I will not promise anything, but I will do my best ;). Imagine a Kaki sequins fabric, like on this Nina Ricci dress, impossible for me to resist ;)
Fashion Show pictures from : Sonia Rykiel, Alice + Olivia, Max Mara, Nina Ricci, M Missoni, Alexis Mabille, Escada, Diane von Furstenberg from left to right.

* the last shinny "Fabric" of the season : Lurex ! True it's not really a fabric, lurex, is made of Metallic threads, weaved or knitted with other fibers ;). The Trend is as well on wovens as on knits !!
We already have a few Jerseys or French Terry online, in case you like the Trend ;-).
Fashion Show pictures from : Jil Sander, Polo Ralph Lauren, Burberry, M Missoni, Missoni from left to right.

Another groupe of Trendy fabrics that can be grouped together : Leather / Buckskin and  Vinyl !!

* It's nearly a "Basic" now on the runways, as Leather is a fabric we seen since 3/4 seasons and it's still In this Fall / Winter !! An this season there's a special focus on Leather Dresses ;) but that we will see in detail inside the Shape post !
Fashion Show pictures from : Chloé, Hermès, Chanel, 3.1 Philip Lim, Topshop Unique, Barbara Bui, Calvin Klein Collection, Oscar de la Renta from left to right.

* Buckskin is back as well, ok, for us it's gonna be Suede ;) ! In color on the Balmain and Adam Lippes collections, but mostly in natural tones like Beige and Cognac ;).
Fashion Show pictures from : Polo Ralph Lauren, Zadig & Voltaire, Ralph Lauren, Adam Lippes, Pam & Gela, Balmain, Michael Kors Collection from left to right.

* the new one in this groupe is Vinyl !! On trousers, Skirts, Coats etc ... maybe not the most commercial fabric ;) so let's see if it's gonna be a succes ! I'm nearly sure we will not find any Vinyl in Portugal as in our Price range they are mainly Made in China, so not really necessary for us to have it in the shop ;).
Fashion Show pictures from : Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Isabel Marant, Lanvin, Thom Browne, Kenzo, Lacoste, Proenza Schouler from left to right.

* Let's continue with another succes of the summer, still In during Fall, Pleated fabrics !! Metalic pleats, Chiffon pleats, Pleated Knit etc ...  fabric mainly seen on skirts and a few dresses ;)
Fashion Show pictures from : Adam Lippes, Christopher Kane, Givenchy, Gucci, 3.1 Philip Lim, Giorgio Armani, Max Mara, Alice + Olivia from left to right.

* Another Runway Classic : Lace and Guipure Lace, allover or just as a yoke, on Tops, Dresses or Skirt, yes a basic ;)
Fashion Show pictures from : Chanel, McQ Alexander Mc Queen, Monique Lhuillier, Adam Lippes, Jonathan Simkhai, DKNY, Burberry, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel from left to right.

* When there's a "Rock" theme, this fabric always make's a come back ;) Plumetis !! A shy comeback but still ...
and you can find a Plumetis Chiffon right here ;)
Fashion Show pictures from : Saint Laurent, Derek Lam 10 Crosby, Barbara Bui, Valentino, Marc Jacobs from left to right.

* And to Finaly close this fabric chapter, another fabric, we already talked about this summer : Fishnet
Here as well, I'm gonna be Là encore, je vais être très honnête avec vous, nous avons 100% honest with you, we have one quality in 2 colors online, but not really selling, so I'm not gonna buy anything new, but that's not a reason not to show you the runway silhouettes ;)
Fashion Pictures from : Opening Ceremony, Derek Lam, Sonia Rykiel, Max Mara, Escada, Anthony Vaccarello, Mulberry from left to right.

I'll be back soon to speak about the prints of the season ! and with the BIG plain Trend, promised the post is gonna be Muuch shorter ;) !

Have a great day,

Yvonne
